Gleeksman-Kohn Children’s Choir and Pittsburgh Youth Chorus Collaboration Concert

Settlement's Gleeksman-Kohn Children's Choir and the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus.
The Pittsburgh Youth Chorus and the Gleeksman-Kohn Children’s Choir of Settlement Music School are collaborating to create and share a two-day music festival on Friday, June 28th and Saturday, June 29th. Close to 70 children from both ‘shores’ of Pennsylvania will come together to make music. They will be sharing their songs and the talents of their staff members. They will also be exploring Old City Philadelphia together. The event will take place in the historic Christ Church and their Neighborhood House located at 2nd and Market Streets. The festival will culminate with a concert in Christ Church at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 29th. This concert will also premiere the choral work the two organizations have commissioned by Philadelphia composer Jay Fluellen. Mr. Fluellen had the children complete the statement, “This world needs….” With their responses, he created the text for the new work, This World Needs…. The concert is free of charge and the public is invited to attend. The dream of this two-day collaboration is to sing songs of hope, and to truly experience what the City of Brotherly has to offer.
