The Branch Director is responsible for the educational, artistic, and administrative management of the Mary Louise Curtis Branch (MLC) which is the founding branch of Settlement Music School. The branch has been led only by two Branch Directors over the past 36 years. MLC is the home of Settlement’s Central Administration and our Kaleidoscope Arts Integrated Head Start Pre-School. Branch activity is very busy as it is also the home of our Presser Concert Hall which is used frequently in Philadelphia’s artistic community. It is an especially interesting time to join our team as we will be launching capital projects for the building in the fall.

The Branch Director works as a member of the senior management in the overall administration of Settlement. The person will work closely with all Branch Directors, Program Staff, and the Dean to build upon successful program development models to encourage student recruitment from the community. The Mary Louise Curtis Branch Director is integral to building new partnerships and developing existing ones in the local community, which has been an area of tremendous growth for the School in the past several years.

Specific responsibilities for this full-time position include:

  • Hire and supervise an eight-person (full-time and part-time) office and custodial staff.
  • Assign and supervise approximately 65 faculty.
  • Oversee programs that provide more than 1,000 services per week.
  • Work closely with branch staff to manage all registrations, payroll, the awarding of financial aid, and
  • Continue to build enrollment.
  • Develop relationships within the community served by the branch.
  • Act as the staff liaison to the Mary Louise Curtis Branch Board of Directors.
  • Manage a 35,000 square foot branch facility and grounds and supervise all activities within the building.

The Branch Director reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with the Dean.

Knowledge, Qualifications and Skills

  • 7+ years music teaching experience and arts administrative experience that includes leadership and management.
  • Extensive knowledge in the field of community arts education.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in music performance or music education; Masters degree in music performance or music education or equivalent experience preferred.
