Bonnie Hoffmann has been teaching at Settlement Music School since 2008, but her relationship with Settlement started many years prior. She studied piano at Settlement as a junior high and high school student with Arthur Judson Distinguished Faculty Chair Sandra Carlock. From there she went on to attend Houghton College (Houghton, NY) as the sole recipient of their Presidential scholarship. At Houghton she studied with Dr. William Newbrough, and she was selected to participate in Master Classes with both Leon Fleischer and Ann Schein. Bonnie graduated from Houghton in 2008, but an unfortunate diagnosis of Mid-carpal laxity prevented her from pursuing her Masters’ degree. She began teaching at Settlement in 2008 where she studied again with Sandra Carlock, both to continue her own piano studies but also to train in piano pedagogy. Because of her own struggle with injury, Bonnie is passionate about training her students in building an efficient technique which not only produces a rich, beautiful tone, but also prevents unnecessary strain in the hands and wrists.
