Ms. Brittany Johnson, a South Carolina native began her dance journey at age five. Her involvement as a junior company apprentice at Columbia City Ballet afforded her accompanying roles in several ballets including The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Dracula: Ballet with a Bite, and Romeo and Juliet. This jumpstarted her career as it gave her a fearless edge in her performances in concert dance and musical theatre at Winthrop University (2011-2015). She participated in both leading and supporting actress roles, and ensemble roles in Chicago, Hairspray, Urinetown, and the stageplay Hush Little Baby. She was awarded the Modern Dance Award and Most Likely to Be on Broadway for her onstage accomplishments. Meanwhile, she also began scholarly research activities with the prestigious Ronald E. McNair post-graduate cohort (2013), and traveled to Chicago, IL in 2014 to present her dance pedagogy research at the National Dance Education Organization conference.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Dance Education (K-12) she furthered her research at Temple University’s Master’s Dance program and completed her thesis on the psychological and economic implications of ballet training on adolescent minority children. Shortly afterward she began her independent artist career, educating students first in South Carolina and later on in the Bronx, New York, and Stamford, Connecticut. While in New York she continued to hone her craft at the Alvin Ailey Extension Program affording her numerous performance opportunities; such as principal dancer in productions with Dance Ministry Institute, soloist with Drye/Marinaro Dance Company, and backup dancer for international singer Angelique Kidjo. Most recently, Ms. Brittany has launched a dance video production with her former dance troupe The Golden Griffin Dance Troupe in South Carolina and completed her first season with the renowned Philadanco second company in Philadelphia. Now as a faculty member at the Settlement Music School, she is brimming with excitement to share her passion and wealth of experience with young dancers.
