Linnea Marchie is a violist who recently moved to the Philadelphia area! She has received degrees in viola performance from Rutgers University, Boston University, University of Maryland, and DePaul University where she has held performance scholarships and assistantship positions. Her primary teachers have included CJ Chang, Principal violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Michelle LaCourse, Katherine Murdock, and WeiTing Kuo of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She has attended the Aspen Music Festival, The Bowdoin Festival, and has held fellowship positions with the National Repertory Orchestra, the Round Top Festival Institute, and also with the AIMS Opera Orchestra in Graz, Austria.
As a performer, she has performed with the New York Choral Arts Society in the Kennedy Center, was Assistant Principal Viola of the Fairfax Symphony, has performed all over the DC area, and is currently an active freelancer in her new home of Philadelphia. She has performed in Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall and the Schlossberg Graz among many others, and has appeared as Principal Viola alongside classical guitar legend Sharon Isbin in Aspen, played in concert with Rufus Wainwright, and recorded a music video alongside rapper Jay-Z for the Super Bowl in NYC. Linnea plays on a beautiful Douglas Cox viola generously provided to her through a scholarship grant from the Virtu Foundation.
