Pianist Irene Pokrovsky was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. She started taking piano lessons at the age of 4 and continued her education at the Special School for Gifted Children with Sarra Axelrod. Upon her graduation, she was accepted to the Uzeir Gadjibekov Conservatory (Baku), where she received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Performance, Teaching and Accompaniment. Irene participated in music festivals and competitions throughout the former Soviet Union, receiving several major awards. In 1994, she immigrated to the United States and started teaching piano at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia in 1996. Since 2008, she has served as Sacred Music Director at McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst military base.
