Tessa Ellis has called Philadelphia home since 2011, when she joined David Bilger’s studio at Temple University and subsequently the Curtis Institute of Music. There, she completed a B.M. in 2017 and a Community Artist Fellowship Diploma in 2018. She has won the National Trumpet Competition as a soloist and with an ensemble and she placed as a finalist in the Ellsworth-Smith International Trumpet Competition. Tessa has taught trumpet, music theory, and general music to students aged 6 months- 80 years. As a teaching artist, Tessa strives to provide individualized instruction in a supportive learner-led environment. She is a founding member of the Arcana New Music Ensemble, whose mission is to play “beautiful, interesting and unconventional music in beautiful, interesting, and unconventional spaces.” She brings her preference for an unconventional aesthetic to her brass quintet, Opus 5, which will feature two works by living composers on its debut album.
