Brian Osborne is a percussionist, sound artist, and educator who moved to Philadelphia in 2015 after more than a decade of active participation in New York City’s creative music scene, where he performed regularly at centers for new music such as: The Stone, Tonic, and Knitting Factory. Brian received his BM in Percussion Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, studying under James Massie Johnson, former principal timpanist of the St. Louis Symphony. Brian then moved to NYC, where he continued his studies for several years with master percussionist, free jazz legend, and polymath, Milford Graves. During this time, he also studied Javanese Gamelan Music through the Indonesian Consulate. Brian’s focus remains on performing and recording experimental and improvised music. He performs regularly across the US and Europe and has over twenty released recordings to date.
