Born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, Kalayah Curry is a dance educator, choreographer, and performer who is passionate about developing well-rounded dancers both inside and outside the studio. She received her B.F.A. in Dance from Temple University and a Certificate in Performing Arts Health & Fitness from Shenandoah University. Her artistic training includes Ballet, Modern, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and West African dance, and she has studied with incredible artists such as Jolet Creary, Kariamu Welsh, Kim Bears-Bailey, Dara Meredith, LaCeda Nelson, Ali Willingham, and many more wonderful artists and performers through the Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts.
Kalayah currently performs with Grace Dance Theater while continuing to teach and mentor the next generation of dancers. Her classes combine technical training with creativity, athleticism, and a strong emphasis on safe dance practices. Drawing from her background in anatomy, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, and performing arts health, she enjoys helping dancers understand not just how to move, but why they move the way they do.
She believes every dancer deserves an environment where they feel seen, challenged, and empowered to grow. Along with her experience in preparing students for the stage, competitions, auditions, or simply helping them build confidence, Kalayah’s goal is to inspire a love for dance while giving students the tools to enjoy long, healthy, and successful dance journeys.
