Piano Faculty

Maya Kociba (she/they) originally hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, where she attended the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. During her time there, she studied piano under Michael Chertock and Dr. Andrew Villemez, and conducting and choral pedagogy under Dr. Eva Floyd and Dr. Bret Scott. Today, Maya is thrilled to be part of the Settlement Music School piano faculty, where she can continue to add to her 10+ years of piano teaching experience. Maya is also the co-founder and artistic director of the Transcendent Choir of Philadelphia, where they are committed to providing a positive choral environment for singers whose lived experience expands beyond the gender binary. The Transcendent Choir of Philadelphia, in only its first season, has collaborated with ANNA Crusis Feminist Choir, as well as Philadelphia Voices of Pride, Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, and the Philadelphia Orchestra for their annual Pride concert. When Maya isn’t teaching, she loves walking her dog, playing Stardew Valley, and playing board games with her husband and their friends!
