Settlement Music School celebrates the artistry of its faculty members in this annual free concert featuring performances by Mitchell Newman (violin) and Dan Shapiro (piano). Following the concert, the performers will lead a 2:30 p.m. student masterclass featuring the Gray Charitable Trust Piano Trio and the Myer Schwartz Piano Trio.

"The Competition discovers promising young opera singers and assists in the development of their careers. Hundreds of volunteers from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico fundraise, operate, and support the efforts of the Competition and its singers. Some of today’s greatest opera stars got their start in the competition, including Jamie Barton, Stephanie Blythe, Lawrence Brownlee, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Emily D'Angelo, Michael Fabiano, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Ryan Speedo Green, Lisette Oropesa, Eric Owens, Nadine Sierra, and Christian Van Horn."

here. American conductor Na’Zir McFadden is the Assistant Conductor and Phillip & Lauren Fisher Community Ambassador of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. McFadden also serves as Music Director of the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra. Together they’ll present three programs — exploring the masterworks of Sibelius, Schubert, Beethoven, Takashi Yoshimatsu and Einojuhani Rautavaara.
