An important message from the Chief Executive Officer of Settlement Music School
Dear Settlement Family,
First, let me say how much we miss you all and hope you and your families are staying healthy.
How the world has changed. In less than two weeks, we have gone from a bustling community arts school with a busy calendar of in-house events, classes, lessons, pre-school, and after-school programming, to a collective of remote innovators, focused on preserving the learning opportunities of our students and the teaching capabilities of our faculty, while working to ensure everyone’s safety.
In the last week, we have transitioned successfully to distance learning, and I have received one overjoyed message after another from students of all ages that this is working, and that their music lessons are a bright part our their day – and week. Our Facebook and Instagram are full of photos of students and families continuing to make music from home.
I miss our branches, and our community partners, and the sights and sounds of so many people coming together to improve the world through learning the arts. But I could not be prouder of the thousands of us who are in this together — families, faculty, staff, and board, who are striving to continue in the face of isolation to reach out through the gift of technology and learn together.
In this time of uncertainty, we are doing our part to make sure everyone is able to keep art in their lives, regardless of location. Beginning this week, we are launching two free educational series that will stream live on our Facebook page. Learn more about Settlement 101: Live and Settlement Kids: Live by visiting our website. Plus, we are waiving registration fees for any new students interested in our special, four-week Online Individual Instruction package, available for all ages and all instruments.
We know that art and music lifts our souls and can unite us all. We believe that the best thing anyone can do in a crisis is to be productive and stay engaged. Here at Settlement, we believe that the act of doing, of practicing, of reaching goals, will be what gets us through this time with our spirits intact.
Please stay well,
CEO, Settlement Music School
