JACK Quartet Masterclass

A chance for ensembles to perform for and receive feedback from the JACK Quartet. Musical America’s 2018 “Ensemble of the Year”, one of WQXR’s “19 for 19 Artists to Watch”, and recipients of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, JACK has been heralded by the Washington Post who called them, “the go-to quartet for contemporary music, tying impeccable musicianship to intellectual ferocity and a take-no-prisoners sense of commitment.”

Dynasty Battles Masterclass

A chance for ensembles to perform for and receive feedback from pianist Dynasty Battles. An alumnus of our Germantown Branch, Battles has performed George Walker’s Piano Sonata No. 1 in a private engagement at the composer’s home, and was recognized by AL DÍA as a “40 Under Forty” honoree in 2020. Battles studies with internationally acclaimed pianist Leon Bates, and has also studied with Jonathan Coopersmith, Chair of Musical Studies at the Curtis Institute of Music.

Settlement Jazz and Pizza Jam Session Featuring Drummer Justin Faulkner

Join us on Tuesday, December 20 for the Settlement Jazz and Pizza Jam Session featuring world renowned jazz drummer Justin Faulkner! The night will begin with a 45 minute masterclass followed by a Jam session including Settlement faculty member Tony Miceli. The night will be an unforgettable chance for young musicians to get together, meet some of Philly’s great jazz musicians and play in a controlled positive energy jam session.

PMAY Recital

This recital will feature PMAY Artists and is free and open to the public. PMAY Artists Initiative is a program for serious music students from groups historically underrepresented on the concert stage, who wish to pursue careers in classical music. The performance will showcase approximately 8 artists across a variety of instruments and will be about an hour in length. A small reception will follow the event.
