Ensemble Auditions
Jazz Ensembles
Auditions for our 2024-2025 Helen K. Schwartz Advanced Study and Wheeler Pre-Advanced Jazz Ensembles will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 6 p.m. at Settlement’s Mary Louise Curtis Branch (416 Queen St. Philadelphia, PA). Audition Requirements:
***Students will be performing with a house band comprised of Settlement faculty.
Bass, Guitar, Keyboard, Wind, and Brass players:
Play the melody and two solo choruses from any two of the following standards:
- “Little Sunflower” by Freddie Hubbard
- “All Blues” by Miles Davis
- “Blue Bossa” by Kenny Dorham
- “Billie’s Bounce” by Charlie Parker
Drummers:
Trade 8 measures of keeping time and 8 measures of solo using the following requirements:
- With Brushes – swing time trading 8s with yourself
- With Sticks –
a. Fast tempo trading 8s with yourself
b. Medium tempo trading 8s with yourself
Chamber Music Program

Advanced Study Ensemble
Auditions for the Advanced Study Scholarship (strings and piano) will be held on Monday, June 3 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mary Louise Curtis Branch of Settlement Music School.
** Separate auditions for the Rosalie Magen Weinstein and Matthew B. Weinstein Woodwind Quintet will be held on Wednesday, June 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mary Louise Curtis Branch of Settlement Music School.

Audition Requirements:
Applicants should prepare two contrasting movements from one or more concertos or solo works and a scale of their choice. The audition will also include sight-reading. No accompanist is necessary.
