Pathways to Performance Trombones
It’s all about the slide.

Trombones are the only brass instrument that doesn’t rely on valves in order to manipulate its pitch. Instead, the player moves the trombone’s slide in and out to change the instrument’s length – the longer the tube, the lower the pitch.
