Piano
Its name literally means “soft.”
Piano is actually short for “pianoforte,” which is Italian for “soft-loud.” That’s because all keyboard instruments that existed before the piano could only play at one volume, but the piano’s volume could easily be controlled by the player. This, combined with the piano’s ability to play melodies and harmonies at the same time, has made the piano perhaps the most ubiquitous instrument in the world.
Philadelphia Magazine named Settlement Music School in the “Best Piano Instruction” category on its 2013 “Best of Philly” list.
